Digital Transformation: How to Harness Your Creativity in the Digital Age

This pandemic has forced companies to think outside-the-box and adapt quickly to the new normal to survive. As a result, with limited resources and a shift to remote work, this quarantine has unveiled various forms of creativity that had never been explored before.

Moreover, the increase in digital technologies today has paved the way for a lot more platforms to tell our stories and express our creativity. So, the challenge to perform better and produce unique ideas has never been easier.

However, creative people get stuck in their ways, too. So, here are some ways on how you can unleash your creativity.

1. Continuous learning is the key.

“The only thing that is constant is change” -Heraclitus

Creativity comes with our gained knowledge and experience. Therefore, it is important to make time for learning and trying new things. It doesn’t matter which means, whether through researching, reading books, listening to podcasts, attending webinars, or even talking with your colleagues. As long as you’re expanding yourself professionally and personally, that’s what’s important. To adapt, innovate, or be open with a new process, requires learning.

2. Curiosity begets creativity.

“The power to question is the basis of human progress.” – Indira Gandhi

Creative people are naturally curious and are open to learning new skills to improve their performance. With all the digital technologies today, it is essential to stay curious, especially now as some of these tools are new and complex.

It is also important to be open to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Additionally, never take things for granted. Always try to dig deeper beneath the surface of what is around you. Lastly, always ask questions. How, what, why, where, who, and when are the best friends of curious people.

3. When all else fails, iterate.

“Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right.” -Walt Disney

When we realise that our vision and execution didn’t match, our creativity level takes a hit. Remember, failure is common in the process of planning or creating. In fact, unique designs or ideas don’t just appear overnight – they take time and patience to get right.

Try and try until you get into a desirable outcome. Create. Evaluate. Repeat. After all, iteration is a cyclic process that includes testing, repeating, and defining your work.

4. Allow yourself to BREATHE.

“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work, your judgment will be surer.” – Leonardo da Vinci

Being a creative person means your mind is always buzzing with new ideas. However, problems with inspiration and motivation sometimes arise when you work too much. Hence, allow yourself to take a rest.

Always remember that your body needs some time to recuperate. So, reward yourself. Watch your favourite movie or television series, read books, catch some sleep, and exercise. It’s okay to put yourself first once in a while.

With the uncertainty of this time and the future, there is no doubt that creativity is more important than ever. The world demands new ideas and perspectives if we want to stay relevant.

Equally important, innovation is the bloodline of any successful company today. So, without new and creative ideas, there’s no innovation. To reach innovation, might as well unleash those creative juices.
